Greetings from Adam Moore!  My Boy Scout Eagle Project is building a 1/20th scale model of the Strater Hotel in Durango, Colorado. This model will provide renewed interest not only in the Strater, but in other historically important buildings across the nation as well.  The Strater itself is 132 years old! Also, the unique architecture from the days of the Wild West provides a great challenge for me to re-create in miniature!

The model will be constructed of small, well-known plastic blocks commonly called LEGOs. In the CAD application, Lego Digital Designer (LDD), I have re-created the Strater Hotel in pain-staking detail to the original:

The model will be approximately three feet long, two feet wide and two feet tall to the top of the roof. Now, I will re-create only the front and right side of the hotel for my Eagle project, as these are the most interesting parts.

The Strater Hotel’s management is very excited to participate in this project.  The model will be on display at the Hotel for the first year, starting on (of course!) July 4th, 2015.  After that, they have arranged to have the model moved to the Durango Discovery Museum.  This model will benefit the entire Durango community, all of Colorado and the many visitors to our great state!

The cost the model will be approximately $1,416 dollars.  This will buy all of the bricks (7,485 of them!) from LEGO Pick-A-Brick and/or BrickLink, the two main outlets of custom pieces. For that reason, I have set up this website to ask for donations from all of you…my friends and family! As well as this website, I will be organizing a car wash to raise funds as well. I would like to ask you now to take a moment of your time and perhaps donate some of your hard earned money and pray for me that this all works out!  It costs, on average, 32.7 cents per brick (since the design uses some of the more costly LEGO parts).  All donations are greatly appreciated…and ARE TAX DEDUCTIBLE!  NOTE: As per BSA policies, please keep your donation to $100 maximum per person.  If you would like to read more about why my project benefits the Durango Community, click here:
